Will God Help Us In Our Day?

The complexities of life

Life is full of twists and turns. This can create marital, financial, business, health, family, or career challenges for us. However, we are given the greatest assurances of help by God through His Word. The Word of God is littered with many scenarios where God, through His divine providence, helped His people when they needed Him. Sometimes, we are tempted to think that God only helped the people of the bible and wonder if God will help us today.

Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you

Isaiah 41:10 (New King James Version)

Will God help us in our day?

The answer to this question is a resounding yes!Because the Scripture above says so. It is always refreshing to know that God will help us. Any help that God provided for His people then, He can equally provide us with same today. Therefore, the Scripture says, “For I am the LORD, I do not change” 1Malachi 3:6, NKJV. If God helped His people before, He could help His people today. We must remember that “For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope” 2Romans 15:4, NKJV. We must simply believe in the promises of God to help us.

God promised to be with Moses

Come now, therefore, and I will send you to Pharaoh that you may bring My people, the children of Israel, out of Egypt.” But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?” So He said, “I will certainly be with you. And this shall be a sign to you that I have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you shall serve God on this mountain.”

Exodus 3:10-12 (New King James Version)

God called Moses to send him on a mission. Moses saw the mission as impossible so he said to God “O my Lord, please send by the hand of whomever else You may send.”3Exodus 4:13, NKJV. God promised to be with him on the mission. The promise of God to be with Moses essentially meant that God would be there to help him while on the mission.Indeed, God honored His word to Moses. Through the help of God, Moses led the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt. That is why the Scripture says “Then he called for Moses and Aaron by night, and said, “Rise, go out from among my people, both you and the children of Israel. And go, serve the LORD as you have said.”  4Exodus 12:31, NKJV. God remained with Moses until his very last breath on earth.  The events in the life of Moses are testimonies of the faithfulness of God to His Word and to His servant.

God promised to be with Joshua too

No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you.

Joshua 1:5 (New King James Version)

When God called Joshua, He assured him that He would be with him just as He was with his predecessor, Moses.  The assurance of God to be with Joshua had the same connotation to that of Moses. It essentially meant that God would help Joshua on his mission to conquer “From the wilderness and this Lebanon as far as the great river, the River Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and to the Great Sea toward the going down of the sun” 5Joshua 1:4, NKJV. Indeed, Joshua captured the land that was promised by God through God’s help.

Which is why the Scripture says “So Joshua took the whole land, according to all that the LORD had said to Moses; and Joshua gave it as an inheritance to Israel according to their divisions by their tribes. Then the land rested from war.” 6Joshua 11:23, NKJV.  This is evidence that God is faithful to His Word and to His servant.

David enjoyed God’s help

God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble.

Psalm 46:1 (New King James Version)

I believe strongly that David came to this realization after his encounter with the lion and bear whilst tending his father’s sheep. That is why he said to King Saul, “Your servant has killed both lion and bear” 71 Samuel 17:36, NKJV. He knew within himself that if God had not showed up, he would have been a piece of meat for the lion and bear. Without any training in the military, he accepted the challenge to fight Goliath. Even those who had received training were running away from Goliath. But in all these challenges, God showed up to help David. With the help of God, he defeated the lion, bear, and Goliath. When God is helping you, you can only be daring! Therefore David said, “and this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, seeing he has defied the armies of the living God” 81 Samuel 17:36, NKJV. These events in the life of David are testaments to the faithfulness of God to His Word and to His servant.

My help comes from the LORD, Who made heaven and earth.

Psalm 121:2 (New King James Version)

Based on the events in the life of David, he reiterated the point that his help truly comes from God. He survived many terrible things in life. Many would ordinarily not survive the experiences in the life of David. This means that with the help of God, we will overcome the challenges of life. On the contrary, without the help of God, we can expect to surrender when we encounter the challenges of life.

By the strength of God

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Philippians 4:13 (New King James Version)

When God helps us by putting His strengthen in us, we become empowered. This empowerment gives us the grace to do the things that ordinarily we couldn’t do. In other words, we are stirred up to take on things that may seem difficult for us in life. This is why the Scripture says that “The LORD is my helper” 9Hebrews 13:5, NKJV. Therefore, we must yearn for the strength that comes from heaven to deal with the issues of our lives. This is because the strength that comes from God opens many possibilities for us. This is why the Scripture says, “For with God nothing will be impossible” 10Luke 1:37, NKJV. However, without the strength that comes from God, we may even fail at the things that may seem simple for everyone in life.

Don’t walk alone

As believers, we must understand that we cannot deal with all the challenges of our lives alone. We would need the intervention of God at some point. When that moment comes, we must not hesitate to turn to God, keeping in mind that He is willing to help us. That is why the Scripture says, “For I, the LORD your God, will hold your right hand, Saying to you, ‘Fear not, I will help you.’” 11Isaiah 41:13, NKJV. However, when we fail to recognize God as our help in life, we ignore His help, thinking we can handle our own issues. This can be detrimental to us in our pursuits in life and we will have ourselves to blame.

Let’s keep the fire burning until the second coming of our Lord Jesus Christ!
