You Need To Use Every Tool Available To You

“Even the simplest tools can empower people to do great things.”

Biz Stone

I caught up with a friend of mine after being apart for so long. We said our pleasantries in our typical way and went on to talk about other issues. During this discussion, she asked me what I thought about the personality test hosted on 16personalities.com. That was an interesting question but  not weird by any stretch of the imagination to me. I quickly understood the place the inquiry was coming from and braced myself to answer. Before I continue, I’ll give you a bit of context.

Many people in the Christian world easily disregard these kinds of tests as worldly, perhaps unscriptural, carnal or unspiritual and hence quickly dismiss them. That, while troubling, is understandable because many people today do not know the difference between what you should live your life by (truth) and what helps you live life (tools). This confusion leaves many people incapable of taking advantage of tools that can enrich their lives.

My friend, though, was no victim of this confusion as she understood perfectly the difference.

Tools are supposed to help you become a better version of yourself or achieve set goals. They are not there to tell you how to live your life!

Personality tests are tools that help us discover a little more about ourselves. They do not finalize who you are. With a personality test, you can become more self-aware. You see a little more about weaknesses you may need to overcome, strengths to reinforce or potential trajectory of life if you continue as at present. They are tools to help you pause, think and adjust if necessary.

Unfortunately, many abuse these kinds of tools and lose the precious advantage to become better versions of themselves or achieve their goals.

For you, like your wise self, I want you to be successful at becoming a better version of yourself or achieve all your meaningful goals. That’s why it is important to be able to separate truth from tools. Know what the tools you need are and by chance if you find yourself in unfamiliar territory with new tools, don’t hesitate to carefully explore.
What is it that people say? The world is your oyster? Don’t miss out on any opportunity because you missed out on taking advantage of a tool!
